A’Lelia Bundles, Madam C. J. Walker’s great-great-granddaughter and biographer, is president and founder of the Madam Walker Family Archives, the largest privately owned collection of photographs, Walker Company business and legal documents, personal correspondence, furniture, clothing and other artifacts and memorabilia inherited from Madam Walker and A’Lelia Walker. She grew up in a household surrounded by the Walker women’s belongings, using silverware with Madam Walker’s monogram every day and learning to read music on a piano that had belonged to her great-grandmother, A’Lelia Walker. A longtime producer and executive with ABC News, she now writes books about the Walker women and serves on nonprofit boards. Her critically acclaimed bestseller, On Her Own Ground: The Life and Times of Madam C. J. Walker, was the first major biography of Walker and was named a New York Times Notable Book.
Items and photographs from the Madam Walker Family Archives have appeared in publications and museums throughout America.
